Hiroshima: Yuso Takesawa's Hibaku Chinese Parasol tree - a season for growing leaves again!

The story of my Hibaku seedling update

This Ginkgo seedling was originally brought to Tokyo at Wako Works of Art for a collector.  The seedling was planted in my hand made elephant foot ceramic pot, however, as soon as it got to Tokyo, it started to get weak. So we decided to replant it in regular pot.  As I left Tokyo, it looked like it was dying. Then, in June 2012, I got a letter from Yukari Hagiwara at Wako Works of Art, letting me know that the Ginkgo that looked like it was dying is now grown so much with many leaves.  I am very happy to know that Yukari took care of it well.

Hiroshima, Japan: Yuso Takesawa's Chinese Parasol Tree update

Hiroshima, Japan: Yuso Takesawa's newly sprouted Chinese Parasol Tree

It is OK since Chinese Parasol trees don't like coldness, but the humidity is so high here in Hiroshima. It is not good for us!! The other day, I took some pictures of the second generation of Hibaku Parasol seedlings at NPO Cetra Hiroshima where they are at. In fall, we will replant it on the ground and this time, we will try hard so no one will pull it out of the ground. The ones we sprouted from seeds are in our balcony and they are growing little by little. Growing trees from seeds is like having and seeing kids grow up. It gives us a dream and hope." ---Yuso Takesawa

Hiroshima, Japan: Yuso Takesawa's newly sprouted Chinese Parasol Tree

Are you in NY now? It sounds like it is really hot there. I bought some seeds of Hibaku Chinese Parasol Tree at Hiroshima Peace memorial Museum for 30 cents for 5 seeds and now I am growing them. I planted 5 seeds altogether, then three of them sprouted. The other Parasol seedling is at Cetra, my friend's place. Hope you are well." ---Yuso Takesawa Summer 2010 (from left) Dr. Horiguchi, Hiroshi Sunairi and a new Chinese Parasol Tree given by Dr. Horiguchi to Yuso Takesawa. Hiroshima, Japan: Yuso Takesawa's Chinese Parasol Tree in the park of Hiroshima..........LOST!!

Sunairi, Early this month of April 14th, I went to the park to see how our Hibaku Parasol Tree was doing, then I couldn't find it, I thought I saw it a while ago. This park had many people gathering for Hanami (in Japanese tradition in the spring time, they do picnick on the ground by blossomed trees). I feel terrible. It has gotten smaller without leaves, so I was afraid someone would step on it or kids playing succor would break the seedling...I looked for it around there for a while... I was dreaming of it growing large leaves....can I try again? Many of my friends are very sad about it. Are you coming back to Hiroshima? T...

The story of my Hibaku seedlings in Hiroshima

Last year, I received 5 Hibaku seedlings from Tree Doctor Riki Horiguchi in Hiroshima, Japan. They were Japanese Hackberry, 2 Ginkgo and 2 Chinese Parasol Tree seedlings. This summer, 2009, they were grown much bigger and I decided to give them away to various people. This is Japanese Hackberry tree seedling. This was given to people at the City Museum of Contemporary Art. This was a Ginkgo Tree seedling. This was planted in a ceramic elephant foot pot that I made. The pot with the Ginkgo was sold to a collector in Tokyo, Japan. This Ginkgo was to be left at my parents' place. This Chinese Parasol Tree seedling was given to Mr. Yuso Takesawa. The Parasol Tree with Mr. Yuso Takesawa. Temporarily, the Parasol Tree stayed in Mr. Takesawa's friend's place. And the last tall Chinese Parasol Tree seedling was... planted in a ceramic elephant pot that I made. Now it is loaned to a collector in Hiroshima, Japan.
